The West End Lacrosse Camp is built on the following principles:
Fun The primary reason children play sports is to have fun. They love mastering new skills, developing friendships, and healthy competition. So often camps concentrate so much on skills training that they become little more than 5 full days of practice. Kids want to play, and we believe that a balanced day of skills training, classroom work, and LOTS of games are the best way to keep kids engaged. Camp is supposed to be fun. Games, drills, or other activities are meant to be enjoyable. Animated coaching is fine, but we always keep things positive.
Inclusiveness This camp everyone, regardless of ability level. No child should be made to feel like they aren’t good enough because of a camp draft. We will work hard to match skill levels on each team, and our coach’s work hard to provide equal playing time for every camper. We continually work with our campers to be certain they don’t feel like they are being slighted on playing time. Our goal is to maximize our athletes’ time on the field, so that this week can make a difference for their next season. Nothing can replace game situations, and our athletes rotate regularly to maximize that opportunity.
Safety Nothing is more important that the safety of our campers. As such, our coaches and counselors are always watching. Camp will be hot, and we will have water stations at every field as well as cooling stations with misting devices to keep our players hydrated and cool. Our coaches make sure your players are hydrating regularly and they enforce the use of the cool zone schedule. Camp Coaches and Councilors always use the buddy system when alone with players. When escorting a player to a private area, camp personnel will bring another member of staff, a volunteer, or another camper. Finally, we will not be checking during games, so our coaches make sure that players understand and obey the rules.
